Catlett, Virginia Dairy Family Honored for 100 Years of Membership

August 6, 2020, Reston, Virginia – Galettli Farm of Catlett, Virginia celebrated 100 years of membership today with Maryland & Virginia Milk Producers Cooperative at the organization’s 100th Annual Meeting/Virtual Honors Ceremony held earlier today.

The Glaettli family was one of the first members to ship milk to Maryland & Virginia.

The Catlett, Virginia dairy farm is operated by Stephen Glaettli. He has been milking cows for the past 56 years. According to Stephen, many family members contributed to helping around the farm over the years and milking the cows.

Stephen and his family used to breed registered Red and White polled cattle and his nephews used to show at local shows. Over time, he slowly moved away from maintaining the registrations, but still has descendants of his registered animals.

Today he milks a small herd in a stanchion barn. While many farmers switched to milking parlors, Stephen valued the interaction with the cows in the stanchion barn set up. Stephen said, “The best part of milking cows over the years has been working with the animals. It’s nice to see all those faces looking at you when walk in the barn.”

“Thank you to the Glaettli family for their many years of membership and for achieving this monumental milestone,” said First Vice President Kevin Satterwhite during the award presentation.

In addition to the Glaettli Farm, Maryland & Virginia recognized two more 100-year members and a 50-year member, and announced the co-op’s Producer of the Year during today’s Honors Ceremony. Go to Maryland & Virginia’s website at www.mdvamilk.com to view more about these award-winning farms.
